Masham, North Yorkshire - home to two heavy hitters of the traditional brewery scene; the historic and legendary Theakston Brewery, and the relative new-comer, celebrating their 30th birthday this year, Black Sheep Brewery! The founders of both breweries are Theakston's by name, but which of them packs the biggest punch when it comes to that most classic of British beer styles, The Best Bitter?
I've recently been spending some time around the Masham area, visiting both Black Sheep Brewery and Theakston Brewery on my travels, today though, I'm enjoying a couple of pints in a pub garden, at The Black Swan, Fearby, just two miles up the road from both of these breweries, and serving both of their best bitters on cask allowing for this great head-to-head battle of Yorkshires Best Best Bitters.
