India is not a place you'd typically associate with whisky production, but the Rampur distillery is an exception. The Rampur holdings company, which produces this whisky, doesn't just make single malt whisky - they also produce gin, brandy, and other alcoholic beverages, and they are a big force to be reckoned with in India.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try Rampur Double Cask whisky, and it has quickly become one of the most exotic whiskies I've ever tasted. The whisky comes in a small pouch with a label on the front, and it's part of the Whisky Me monthly subscription service. As the name suggests, Rampur Double Cask is matured in two types of casks - bourbon and sherry - and the combination of these two casks, along with the high-temperature fermentation process used at the Rampur distillery, creates a thrilling combination of tropical fruit, dried fruit, and spice.

The whisky is a golden deep straw colour, with a sweet and boozy aroma. The sultanas are prominent on the nose, and there are also hints of ginger and banana. The whisky has a dessert wine character, with layers and levels of sweetness, and it packs a fiery punch. It goes great with carrot cake, turkey curry, chestnuts, and more.

In terms of taste, it's difficult to compare Rampur Double Cask to other whiskies, but the bourbon and sherry cask maturation process gives it similarities to other whiskies matured in those barrels. The whisky has a unique character, with the banana and ginger flavour coming through, and it's very interesting to drink.

In conclusion, if you're a fan of whisky, or if you're just looking for a new and exotic experience, Rampur Double Cask is definitely worth a try.
